During a meeting in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Executive Council of the UN World Tourism Organization re-elected Saudi Arabia as its president for 2024.
Saudi Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Executive Council Ahmed Al-Khateeb expressed his commitment to building a resilient tourism sector, emphasizing the Kingdom’s dedication to global cooperation and innovative initiatives. He cited a comprehensive roadmap for supporting international collaboration and acknowledged the Kingdom’s support for sustainable development initiatives, including the establishment of the Sustainable Tourism Global Center.
Al-Khateeb also shared that Saudi Arabia is set to host the 26th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in 2025, a first for the Kingdom. He highlighted the assembly’s focus on promoting sustainable development, peace, and international cooperation in the tourism sector, along with showcasing Saudi Arabia’s cultural and tourism developments.
